Smoking and the Wizards of Washington

Smoking and the Wizards of Washington:

November 10, 2010 news release announced “The Beginning of the End of the Tobacco Epidemic”.  We are going to put scary pictures on the packages so “people who pick up packs of cigarettes are going to know exactly what risks they are taking”.  Do you know of anyone in this country who does not know that cigarettes are bad for you?  If there were pictures on the cigarette packages would President Obama quit smoking?  (Does the President and Congress pay going rate for cigarettes or are they exempt from the federal cigarette tax the rest of us pay?)
Cigarettes are good for America:

1.    With the government takeover of health care, people will die sooner, which is a cost savings for the health care system.  Fewer people to service.
2.    There is a social security savings because many of the effects of smoking do not happen till we are much older.  Another cost cutting measure for the government.
3.    The government collects millions of dollars in taxes every year from tobacco sales.  How are we going to replace the income?
4.    The streets of America will be safer, as there will be less people driving their electric vehicles, that we have to bribe people to drive through tax credits and Federal rebates from other people’s money.  (Remember, from those who have to those who do not have, except if you are part of the ruling class, then you are entitled to whatever you desire.)

Please remember that some of this is hyperbole.  I am not a fan of smoking but was trying to illustrate the lunacy of the situation.  In fact, I think the President should quit smoking for the children’s sake.  He is a role model for the youth of America and if only one child decided to not smoke, wouldn’t that be worth it, to save a child’s life?
